Antiquarius 2007 Draws World-Class Dealers to 50th Greenwich Antiques Show

Antiquarius 2007, the week-long series of events that includes the renowned Greenwich Antiques Show and season favorite Holiday House Tour, will take place November 29 through December 5, 2007. The roster of dealers, this year, includes many nationally and internationally known names. “For the celebration of our 50th Antiques Show, we are planning a particularly beautiful and diverse show with a number of new and exciting exhibitors,” said Greenwich Historical Society Director of Development Melinda Sherman. “Our theme is “celebrating 50 years of collecting” and visitors will find everything from exquisite estate jewelry to Biedermeier furniture to French antique wine-making accoutrements and Ming Dynasty ceramics. The range is tremendous.”

The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich holds Antiquarius each year to benefit the education programs at Bush-Holley Historic Site, which include The Afterschool, Artist-in-Residence Program for students, family programs, and special events that serve over 7000 children in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. The largest annual fundraising activity to benefit The Historical Society, Antiquarius includes a gala preview party, antiques show, designer forum, holiday house tour of Greenwich homes and a holiday shopping boutique.

Keeling Wainwright Associates, Inc. are the show managers of the 50th Greenwich Antiques Show. The veteran antiques show management firm also manages the Philadelphia Antiques Show, the Winnetka Antiques in Illinois, and the Charleston International Antiques Show. A selection of dealers who will participate in this year’s Greenwich Antiques Show includes:

Ile de France Antiques, located in Woodbury and Marbledale, Connecticut is a unique shop that specializes solely in French Antiques related to wine and cooking. Through their extensive network of resources in France, they are able to locate many unusual objects related to cooking and serving food, and wine making, including copperware, enamels, faience, baskets, signs and furniture.

Maxine Antiques of Oakland, CA deals in rare and exceptional pieces of estate jewelry from around 1800 to the 1940s. Included in the jewelry that will be at The Greenwich Antiques Show, are a unique American or British heirloom pearl necklace that dates from 1820 in perfect condition, many Deco and platinum and diamond pieces, as well as an extraordinary onyx and 1920s diamond lady’s wrist watch, set in all platinum. Owner Judith Maxine Schweizer was trained and worked in London and has developed a strong American following over the years.

Nathan Liverant and Son has been dealing in 18th and 19th Century American furniture, paintings, silver, glass and accessories since 1920. In addition to carrying a large inventory of quality antiques, they specialize in fine Connecticut and New England furniture made prior to 1840. Nathan Liverant and Son has sold antiques to many major American museums and numerous private collectors. A third generation antiques business, the business has been located in a former Baptist meeting house on South Main Street in Colchester, Connecticut for the past 50 years.

Peter Pap Oriental Rugs, Inc. Peter Pap, a regular appraiser on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow and The Martha Stewart Living Radio Show, is known internationally as a respected dealer of antique carpets, textiles and tribal weavings. In addition to selling oriental rugs, he often called upon to appraise, curate and consult on aesthetics and restoration. He has been dealing in antique oriental rugs for over 30 years and lectures throughout the country at antique shows, rug societies, and museums. His rugs have has been featured in articles in the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, Elle Décor, and House Beautiful.

 

Vallin Galleries of Wilton, CT has sold Asian ceramics, furniture, sculpture and textiles since 1940. Objects from the galleries have been purchased by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Los Angeles County Museum, The Peabody Essex Museum, and the Yale Museum of Art, among other educational institutions. Additionally, pieces have been acquired by some of the finest American and international private collectors.

 

Anne and David Ogilvy will serve as Honorary Chairs for Antiquarius 2007. Mayling McCormack and Teresa Kratzman will co-chair the Antiques Show. Jennifer Walsh will chair the Holiday House Tour.

The Greenwich Antiques Show Events:

Thursday, November 29 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. A ticketed gala preview party will take place at The 50th Greenwich Antiques Show site at the Greenwich Civic Center, 90 Harding Road, Old Greenwich. Call for ticket information.

Friday, November 30 - Sunday, December 2, The 50th Greenwich Antiques Show will feature noteworthy exhibitions of antiques and art at the Greenwich Civic Center.

Saturday, December 1 at 2 p.m., the Designer Forum will present a panel of leading designers, Anthony Baratta, William Diamond and David Easton to discuss the latest design trends and ideas. Moderated by Kathleen Doyle of Doyle New York, the forum includes a wine and cheese reception. Tickets $50.

Wednesday, December 5, the Antiquarius Holiday House Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests will follow a map to six beautifully decorated homes in Greenwich. Reservations are required. Tickets $100 each. A reserved luncheon will be held at a local country club from 12 to 2 p.m. Reservations are required. Tickets $40 per person.

Tuesday, December 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, December 5 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A holiday boutique offering one-of-a-kind gift items for holiday shopping during or after the house tour. Admission free.
