Thursday, September 20 - 76th Annual Meeting & Lecture in Celebration of the 250th Birthday of Gilbert du Motier
Lafayette.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., The Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich and the Alliance Française of Greenwich will present the Historical Society’s 76th annual meeting dinner with a special lecture and reception to commemorate the 250th birthday of Gilbert du Motier Lafayette at The Belle Haven Country Club, 100 Harbor Drive, Greenwich. Lloyd Kramer, PhD and the Dean Smith Distinguished Term Professor in History at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill is this year’s William C. Crooks Distinguished Lecturer. His talk, entitled Lafayette and the Emergence of American National Identity, will explore Lafayette’s prominent role in the American Revolution and his famous tour of America (1824-25). Dr. Kramer will examine why this French nobleman became so influential and how Americans responded to his descriptions of the new American nation. Lecture and cocktail reception only- $25 per person.
