How often do you make a purchase and barely leave the store before removing the item from the bag - but by that time it’s too late to refuse the bag.

Another option is to Carry Your Own Bag when shopping.  Most supermarkets now sell (for a nominal cost) re-usable grocery shopping bags.  And a NY designer has started a new trend - Designer Re-Usable Bags.  Check out what your favorite designer is offering, and don’t get caught carrying a plastic bag!

If you forget your re-usable bag, or your shopping trip was not planned, make a point of saving the plastic bags and return them to a market where a plastic bag collection is set up (ie. check Stop N Shop or Whole Foods).  If your market doesn’t accept plastic bags, ask them to start. 

 Each time we do without a bag, we make a contribution to a cleaner, safer environment, not to mention that plastic bags are made from petrochemicals/oil. So join the trend and do what’s hot in the NY scene - carry a designer re-usable bag.
