About Greenwich Adult Day Care
Greenwich Adult Day Care (GADC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1977 to
allow Greenwich area seniors no longer able to live fully independently to continue
living in their own homes by joining others for professionally supervised care each day. GADC is currently renovating a new larger, enhanced space set to open this spring. Click GADC on the Mianus to tour the new space!
The individualized program of daytime healthcare and social activities is
designed to…
- Provide social interaction, personal care, medical monitoring and
therapeutic and rehabilitation services - Allow seniors to continue living in their own homes, near their families
- Give family and professional caregivers a respite from constant
responsibility of caring for an impaired adult.

Greenwich Adult Day Care, originally called The Witherell Pavilion Club, opened in 1977 in response to a United Way and Commission on Aging study which suggested the need for a community program for seniors too frail to participate in the activities at the Greenwich Senior Center.
- In 1984, GADC collaborated with ARC, the Red Cross and the Senior Center in the formation of the Transportation Association of Greenwich (TAG). TAG provides for the specialized needs of GADC members through the operation of wheelchair accessible vans with driver escorts.
- Since 1986, GADC has been a tenant of Nathaniel Witherell as a “medical model” adult day care facility with a capacity of 50 members/day.
- In 1995, GADC became one of three Day Care Centers in Connecticut to be certified by the Connecticut Association of Adult Day Centers (CAADC).
- THE GAZEBO opened on July 1, 2002 as a 20 person day center designed to meet the requirements of members with specials needs and/or advanced Alzheimer’s or dementia.
Today, GADC is one of the largest adult day care “medical model” providers in Connecticut. The staff is supported by many volunteers. GADC is governed by an active volunteer Board.
